President's Message

Dear Fellow Barracudas,

A warm welcome to all new and returning families for this 2017 season.

EXCELLENCE BEYOND THE POOL is our club vision. Our community of athletes, coaches and parent volunteers has a long and dedicated history of providing our youth with opportunities to train, compete, achieve excellence and life skills in the pool and beyond.

Last season we enjoyed many successes in all our program areas - swimming, water polo and diving. Many of our athletes reached provincials competitions, some brought home meet records and medals, but more importantly, everyone ended the season knowing they had trained hard and achieved their personal best which is the seed to excellence. We hope to build on this success with even higher levels of participation at competitions by both athletes and their supportive parents.

We are pleased to announce we have several new additions to our talented coaching team. Our very own Grace Ni has assumed the position of Head Coach of swimming at MacPherson Pool. We warmly welcome Keenan Elliott as Head Coach of swimming at Kensington. Keenan is an accomplished SFU varsity swimmer and experienced BCSSA coach who will bring great focus, energy and intensity. The Macpherson pool has a new intermediate coach - Nathan Stein. Nathan started his swimming career in the BCSSA and eventually progressed all way to Canada's para-olympic team reaching the medal podium twice. Nathan is an experienced BCSSA coach and is looking forward to giving back to the sport by mentoring new athletes. Adrian Vanderhelm joins the Kensington team. Adrian currently competes for SFU in NCCA competitions and will be working with the juniors. We are pleased to have Con Kubada assume the role of Head Coach of Water Polo. Con was a member of Canada's national Water Polo team that won bronze at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio, Brazil. He has played professional water polo and is currently a high performance Water Polo coach in the winter months. We are currently looking for a full time diving coach as Hayden Davey is unavailable this year.

Together with them, the team of coaches you already know will help all the
swimmers, water polo players and divers reach their personal best.

As you can imagine, all this doesn't happen over night and on its own.
The Barracudas executive team has been working hard over the winter months to
ensurethat the 2017 season will be as successful as the previous one.

Looking forward to greatpractices, swim meets, water polo tournaments and dive meets. Let's not forget the fun team bonding events either!

Enjoy the new season.

Sincerely,

Angela Battiston
