Overview

Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard, usually while performing acrobatics. If you love jumping off the diving boards this is the sport for you. Barracudas offers an intro to competitive dive program for kids ages 6+ who are comfortable in deep water. Divers progress at their own pace starting with basic jumps from a 1 metre springboard to more advance dives involving twists and somersaults from a 3 metre springboard.

Dive Groups

Beginner or Novice divers learn the fundamentals of diving which includes front and back jumps and front fall-ins. This training groups competes in the “Summer Category”. Experienced/ Advance divers train to do more complex dives on perform dives on both the 1-metre and 3-metre springboards. These more advanced divers compete in the “Competitive Category”.

Practices

All divers train 3 times per week at MacPherson Pool on the 1 metre spring board. Practices at pools with 3-metre boards are coordinated by the Coaches of our club with coaches from Port Moody. These practices will be announced by the coaches once the date and times have been confirmed.

Practices consist of a 15 minutes dryland warm-up followed by 1 hour in the pool. Prepare for practice by bringing t-shirt, ,shorts and runners for your dryland workout. Bring 2 towels and a water bottle. Be sure to let your coach know if you are unable to make a practice so the coach can plan accordingly. Be on time!

Meets

Divers are encouraged to participate in any and all dive meets. Typically there are 4 club meets throughout the season hosted by Coquitlam Sharks, North Vancouver Cruisers, Abbotsford Whalers and Port Moody/ Burnaby. Divers must compete in one club meet to be eligible to compete in the Regional Championships held in early August. Top finishers will qualify for Provincial Championships 2 weeks later.
