SWIM COACH POSITIONS                                  

2026–2027 SEASON

The Burnaby Barracudas Summer Aquatics Club is a non-profit competitive aquatics club with a 60-year history of developing swimmers in the Lower Mainland. We offer a competitive and fun environment focused on developing technically proficient, confident and motivated swimmers while fostering strong team spirit.

We are seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable coaches for our 2026-2027 swim program, designed to help swimmers maintain fitness and technical skills while preparing for the upcoming competitive season.

Coaches must be committed to their assigned practices throughout the 2026–2027 season. Reliability, consistency and a positive coaching approach are essential.

COACH RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver safe, engaging and age-appropriate swim practices.
  • Focus on maintaining and developing stroke technique, starts, turns, finishes and race skills. Provide clear demonstrations and individualized technical feedback.
  • Incorporate appropriate fitness, endurance, speed and skills work into practices.
  • Support swimmers in maintaining conditioning and positive training habits.
  • Adapt practices to the needs and abilities of the swimmers attending.
  • Encourage swimmers to set and work toward appropriate individual goals.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and team-oriented training environment.
  • Communicate appropriately with swimmers, parents and the coaching team.
  • Report significant swimmer, safety or behavioural concerns to the appropriate club representative.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as a competitive swimmer.
  • Previous swim coaching experience in a competitive or developmental setting. Strong knowledge of competitive swimming technique.
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate swimming skills and drills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create and deliver organized and engaging practices.
  • A positive and encouraging coaching approach.
  • Additional coaching certifications and experience will be considered an asset.

COACHING ENVIRONMENT

  • Provide positive and constructive feedback.
  • Treat swimmers fairly and respectfully.
  • Encourage effort, improvement and good sportsmanship.
  • Work collaboratively with other Barracudas coaches.
  • Follow the direction of the club’s coaching leadership.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with swimmers. Contribute to a safe, welcoming and positive team environment.

COMPENSATION

The Barracudas offers competitive compensation based on coaching experience, qualifications and responsibilities. Compensation starts at $21 +/hour based on certification level & experience.
